Time Flying By? Yes, It’s True!

Published by davisadmin on

Have you ever said one of these phrases?

“My, how time flies.”

“Where did the time go?”

“Time waits for no one.”

Eric R. Kandel asks, “Has it ever struck you … that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quickly you hardly catch it going? It’s really all memory … except for each passing moment.”

To my surprise, I learned last week that there is a theory that supports time quickly passing by. Did you know that? Or is this news to you also?

Duke University, Mechanical Engineering Professor, Adrian Bejan has hypothesized such a theory. The theory states:

When you are young and experiencing lots of new stimuli—everything is new—time actually seems to be passing more slowly. As you get older, the production of mental images slows down, giving the sense that time passes more rapidly. – Ephrat Livni

It seems that this would have the opposite effect.

Well, if this is the case, it seems to me, we have a choice in the matter. The more we engage our eyes, the slower time will seem to pass. But is this really the solution, or should we focus more on making the most of the measure of time we are given?

We all have the same number of hours in a day –– twenty-four. I feel that what we do with those hours is more important than the number we have.

God told John, while he was on the Isle of Patmos, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.” If we profess to live, move, and have our being in Him, then In Him, we have a beginning and an expected end. God expects us to draw the line between our sunrise and sunset by fulfilling the purpose and plans He set forth for our lives. To not make the most of the time He has given us is like cutting our seasons, here on earth, short.

So, how do we make the most of our days? By taking the time to sit in His presence and seeking after the heart of God asking Father, what would you have me to do this day –– what is the order and what are Your plans? It is in moments like these we learn the who, what, when, and where. Who, we are to minister to –– what we are to do –– when we are to do it ––– and where we are to go?

Knowing the answer to one or all of these questions will set the course for our day every morning that we rise. For you see, this concept of time is not ours, but it is a gift from God. We are mere stewards of His affairs –– the ones who administrate over the matters of the King. But without clear understanding and directions, we will occupy it out foolishly.

Remember the Parable of the servant who received one talent? He dug a hole and hid his lord’s money. I ask you today, where have you hidden God’s time? Could it be that you hid it in watching TV four to five hours in one sitting? Could it have been hidden in your fingers while scrolling through Facebook for two or three hours? Or maybe it was spent napping, because you were drained mentally from watching too much TV and reading through Facebook, exposing your eyes to negative news, a rising pandemic, and politics?

The hour is at hand for us to realign ourselves and come into sync with the rhythm of God’s heartbeat.

I leave you today with these daily declarations taken from The Rules of Engagement: The Art of Strategic Prayer and Spiritual Warfare by Dr. Cindy Trimm.

I decree and declare that my times and seasons are in the hands of God. They will not be altered or adjusted by anyone or anything.

I function under the anointing of the Sons of Issachar, and God gives me the divine ability to accurately discern my times and seasons.

I operate according to God’s divine timetable and calendar.

I decree that God’s agenda is my agenda.

I am not my own; I have been bought with a price. I, therefore, submit myself to Him alone.

Yes, time may be flying by, but I challenge you to make the most of every second, every minute, and every hour of your day. A life well-lived is far better than just living life.

Think about it.
