‘What Cha’ Thinking About?

Published by davisadmin on

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” – Philippians 4:8, NLT

Health.

Safety.

Loved ones.

Financial Security.

Debt.

Wars.

Equality.

Justice.

Many things rent space in our brains, and even though these thoughts are trespassing, we sometimes find it hard to serve an eviction notice on them.

Life has a way of nagging and bullying us to the point that we helplessly surrender ourselves. However, if we reset and transform the way we think and what we think, we can find hope in everyday life.

The Apostle Paul admonishes us to fill our minds with and meditate on true, honorable, proper, pure, lovely, and admirable things—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse—filling our minds with the goodness of God, His grace, and peace.

The key is keeping our peace—peace that surpasses all understanding. I would say that the best way to keep our peace is to avoid, like the plague, the thoughts that rob us.

Here’s a test to determine if the things that we dwell on work against our peace. Ask yourself. Am I able to praise God for the things I’m thinking about? If not, then I’m subject to losing it. If so, I can rest assured that the peace the Father has given me will carry me for a lifetime.
